Review: The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein

The Moon Is a Harsh MistressThe Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Just finished listening to this audio book. I stumbled across the podcast The Sword and Laser which is a sci-fi “book club” podcast. They were reading this book so I thought that I would take part and read it then listen to the podcasts.

If you cannot easily get past political messages in books, especially ones that are one-sided or not your own, or if you cannot get past about 30% of the story feel like it is preaching these politics, then I would NOT recommend this book for you.

If you can ignore this, then the story is tolerable. The concept is one of a computer, no… Super computer… that gains consciousness and befriends a human being, then becomes central in a political revolution. Also, the setting is mostly based on the moon.

I think that if I was not listening to the Audio book then I would not have got through it. The reader, Lyodd James. has narrated many audio books such as Ben Hur. He really made this story come to life with his accents and reading / voice acting abilities.

I would recommend giving this a try, but not to expect the best Sci-fi book of all time or to be blown away.
