My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book felt a lot like a grown up Harry potter. Gerald is a wizard, but barely. His powers are not that great and he struggles with feelings that he was meant for more than being a third grade wizard.
After an accident that destroys a magical staff factory, Gerald discovers that there may be more to him than previously thought.
Taking a job as counsel to a king in the middle of nowhere, Gerald finds himself in over his head in mystery and magic.
For the first book in the series, I was not overwhelmed but I did like the characters and the world of the books. I will read the second book for sure.
